I saw Rudner's 300 SL (the 300 SL, by the way, was produced from 1954 to 1957 and it's one of the most iconic of all post-war Mercs) at the billiga falska klocka tail end of the day at Pebble and it was almost shocking. Vacheron calls this a barrel shape (tonneau) case but it has a real curviness to it – a real sense of itself. The dial is a matte silver-toned color and features a really interesting layout of the Arabic numerals. Note the inverted numerals as they go around the dial. The hands are blued steel, also known as oeil de perdrix, and they hang over an equally interesting minute track at the center.I know that I have an extreme bias for rose (and pink and red) gold, but usually on dress watches. It's harder to find a sport watch that doesn't feel at odds with the material, but I guess the unclassifiable nature of the H08 is what saves it here. It's like a '90s teen rom-com where an oddball, who is really just a conventionally attractive person wearing glasses, gets a makeover just in time for prom. This watch has always been good-looking, it's just that now it shines a little bit brighter.
