As ever, the Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller is 41 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick, though the bombé case and presence of domed-shaped crystals on either side exaggerate the dimensions of the watch on the wrist.The Offshore Diver has always been a fun watch, and last year Audemars Piguet took it to the extreme with bright neon colors. This year they are bringing it back down with the neutrals beige and pas cher rolex milgauss khaki, while keeping it light with the turquoise and purple too. "Variety is the spice of life" could easily be the manufacture's motto if these watches are anything to go by.This is a fun design that pays tribute to the Land of the Rising Sun in a minimalist and tasteful way, kind of like the Japanese flag itself. While the watch is shown here on a white alligator strap, it's worth noting that you do also get a NATO strap and a stainless steel bracelet, so if all white everything isn't your thing, there are ways to tone the overall look down a wee bit while bringing this watch more comfortably into "sports watch" territory.It actually stemmed from the movement – the shape was a natural design evolution once its layout was defined. I was originally thinking of a rectangular design, a bit like the RM 016, but when more parts and functions were added to the movement layout, the design expanded organically.
The basics are the same across all four models. In Switzerland, of course, chronometer is a protected description – only watches that have received one of those fancy sheets of paper can go around describing themselves as such. (The term "chronometer" is not nearly as protected elsewhere in the world.) Lederer, being German, didn't know that. He was calling his orologi replica iwc watch a chronometer because it was one – it featured a chronometer-type escapement.The dial is a real looker. An all-round reproportioning from the original has worked well, with the aqua and white models really capturing the light. They're my faves, but I suspect the black will be equally popular.
