The watch in question is a unique piece of Patek's current flagship fausse tissot montres perpetual calendar chronograph, cased in titanium (!), with an emerald green sunburst dial (!!). The watch will be on display over the next few days during the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction XV preview at Hotel La Reserve on the outskirts of Geneva.Nearly exactly a year ago I was in Switzerland chasing down the untold story of one of Switzerland's greatest watchmakers and spending some time with the Meylan family that – in addition to being related to that watchmaker – owns H. Well, in the case of this watch, a billig ure whole lot. For one thing, this chronograph doesn't just time morning and nightly tooth brushing sessions (get those two minutes in!); it also sets the mechanism in motion to allow Snoopy to achieve liftoff on the caseback.The son and grandson of watchmakers, Laurent Ferrier, the emblematic figure of the brand that bears his name, is profoundly attached to the excellence of traditional watchmaking crafts. His lengthy experience in the fields of horological design, technical research and watch design demonstrates his inventive nature.First released in 1977, the Oysterquartz was Rolex's response to the Quartz Revolution – a solid-gold, battery-powered contender in the dominant category of watchmaking of the era. Not just remarkable for the quartz movement inside, the Oysterquartz also has an unexpected profile, with a tonneau case, a champagne dial, and a quasi-integrated bracelet that is unlike any Rolex watch before or since.Everything else being the same – movement, case, etc. – it just depends who you are. For me, I would imagine the pink watch would be something I'd only wear once a week at most and only in the summer. Maybe it would be a bit of exposure therapy for me that opens me up to wearing more color in my life. It really is a looker, and maybe if I was taking my talents to South Beach, this is a watch I'd rock more often. The newer blue version is probably the safe bet for the average person.
