Ian has pretty much always wanted a Rolex, but it was in 2016, during a road trip through Europe, that he decided to pull the trigger on a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. While in Italy, he started calling around – and finally ended up finding it in basel, Switzerland. When he falsos vacheron-constantin Relojes got back to the States, he had it engraved to commemorate the trip and signify it as the first watch in his collection.The S500 is a thick watch, but even with that in mind, there seems to be a lot of space between the dial and the crystal. I suppose this has to do with the black-on-black design and the lack of applied dial furniture. I found the depth was distracting at first, though it does seem to aid in the way light creates shadows for the sandwich markers.
One of the most interesting aspects of the watch is its operation. To say that the chronograph operation is, to trot out a well-worn horological cliché, buttery-smooth, is to say nothing at all. This might be one of the most enjoyable chronographs to operate that I have ever had the pleasure of starting, stopping and resetting; with your eyes shut, you might be falske jaeger-lecoultre ure holding in your hands any one of a tiny handful of absolutely top-tier chronographs from one of a tiny handful of makers.Part of what is so appealing to me about watches is how they connect us to the past. Even if you buy a watch that's brand-new it still ties you to the past and the history of a brand. But the watch I want to talk about here is one that flies under the radar of most connoisseurs: The Ralph Lauren Automotive Flying Tourbillon.These are time-and-date watches with black (SBGX261) or silver (SBGX263) dials that measure 37mm in diameter, with accuracy to +/- 10 seconds a year, featuring the simplest of polished markers and sharp dauphine hands. If you look at them, they're just watches, pure and simple, that cost an replica breitling Kellot equally unalarming $2,200. But when you look closer, you see that Grand Seiko has executed every single element – sparse as they are – precisely.As Patek's first effort at an in-house chronograph, these classical elements felt intentional, a statement that, while modern watchmaking was often about harder, better, faster, stronger, we're still Patek and we're going to continue, in many cases, doing things the way we've always done them. One of those things is making one of the best manual-wind chronographs on the market. The vintage inspiration of the 5170 is clear, perfectly punctuated with the pulsation scale.

This year, however, the show is back, as both a digital link and in-person physical experience – the organizers are using the awkward neologism "phygital" to describe the two-pronged link approach. The upshot is that this is the first large-scale fine watchmaking trade show in Switzerland in several years. Watches & Wonders 2022 will take place link in Geneva's Palexpo center, for many years the home of the SIHH.

The dial, which could easily come across as corny, is really rather link well done and attractive. The three-dimensional globe has received an intricate micro-carved decoration that reflects real-world topographic data, replicating the mountain ranges link and terrain of different parts of Africa, Asia, link Australia, and the Middle East. The visible part of the globe display is clearly curved – Flat Earthers need not apply – providing a really interesting depth effect to the entire watch.
