Three models come on rubber straps which makes the watches look sort of like combat swimmers who surfaced accidentally through a shoal of princess tiaras. One has diamonds on just the bezel (presumably that's the one that has to stay home and cavort with friendly woodland repliky Rolex creatures, while the others go to the ball).The Hôtel de Horlogers is slightly set back from the main road, behind a garden of tulips in red, yellow, and white. I cannot say that my first thought upon entering was, "how I love watches and timekeeping and all associated and how this hotel makes me think of them." No, the first thing I said was, "Wow, that view."
This is a self-winding chronograph, and yet, you can't see any rotor through the caseback. That's because it's actually on the dial side of the movement. Now, normally it would replica Hublot be impossible to place a rotor on the dial side of a chronograph, because the pivots for the chronograph registers are in the way, but it's possible with caliber AGH-6361 because all the hands are on the same central axis.You might think the case is lavishly done, and indeed it is but the movement makes the case look like something casually tossed off during lunch by comparison. This is a tourbillon movement, under three gold bridges and every single component has been made to the highest possible standards of the time.When one of the world's two or three finest watchmakers (maybe the finest watchmaker) agreed to come by HODINKEE HQ with his own personal collection of watches, we knew we were in for a treat. The 41mm sizing works in this watch's favor. Wearability and versatility are significantly increased with the size decrease. I have a 7.25-inch wrist and often gravitate toward watches between 36 and 42mm. That would take previous iterations of this watch out of the running. I've worn the larger Pilot's Chronograph in the past, and while the 43mm case diameter wasn't a gargantuan thing, it repliky Jaeger LeCoultre did occasionally feel unwieldy. The new size changes that.The black-bezel insert has been part of the GMT-Master mix since the reference 1675, and it was the first version to be available once the GMT-Master switched over to a Cerachrom insert in an all-gold model in 2005 (the steel version we see here came two years later).Sports was a new category for 2023, and for its inaugural winner, the GPHG chose the nominee with the most commercial appeal. The Tudor Pelagos 39 beat out competition from Chopard, Grönefeld, and others. It's a watch we've loved at least since James took it out for A Week On The Wrist and a worthy winner.Adding to that history is just a beautiful watch, full stop. You get the iconic display atop an enamel dial cased in 18k yellow gold. This is the sort of haute horology choice that is fit for those who want to take their collecting journey one step further than most dare to.
