Sitting on the base of the weather station is a solid bronze Weltraumfabrikation alien. He's perched there as the "pilot" of the UFO and L'Epée 1839 engineered a special clockwork mechanism that can rotate him around the base of the weather station at the push of a button. Also, the alien's name is Ross. Because of course it is.At first glance, this Hublot may look like a standard Skittle from a colorful bag of Big Bangs (I’m still crushing on the 42mm Yellow Magic), but look a bit closer and you’ll find a cool and rather subtle geometric rendering of a rhino in the sub-seconds display at nine o’clock. Not only is this a lovely little detail that blends into the complex stage of this Hublot’s skeletonized dial, but it’s also a hint as to this watch’s own greater purpose.
The chocolate bars were one-to-one scale models of the Vagabondage III, made from delicious milk chocolate, which we can confirm after having taken a large bite out of the Rescue Rehab left side of the case (all in the name of responsible reporting, of course). Each was elaborately decorated with edible gold leaf too, because this is a luxury chocolate watch we're talking about. They were also made in Switzerland, of course, just like the less edible watches bearing the FPJ signature.The case design continues that crude-meets-thoughtful design. With the brushed mid-case of the three-piece design, it feels a bit more simple than the rest of the watch. The lugs are also a bit odd compared to what I'm used to seeing, but they suit the rest of the watch. Doing something like a Vichet case à la Rexhep's Chronomètre Contemporain wouldn't have worked in this instance. The domed sapphire is another thoughtful touch and adds dimension.
The watch features Patek's Gyromax® balance and Spiromax® balance spring (in Silinvar®) and the case itself is actually a monobloc case, stamped from a single piece of gold. On some level, this was almost disappointing. The level of detail shown on the Gen Z Retro Hacks 5320 is really nice, and I wish it came at some great manual expense instead of being stamped as is – I'm not sure if that makes sense because the result is lovely either way – but I want my beautiful things to be difficult to make.He wears the watch the entire film – as in literally every scene. In fact, he looks down to check the time, something like seven times throughout the movie, so this isn't just wrist candy. It’s an intrinsic part of his character.
