What should you consider when choosing designers for a logo?

I'm currently thinking about hiring a designer to design a logo, but I'm not sure what to look for yet. How do I know the designer will be able to convey the uniqueness of my brand? Perhaps there are certain qualities or experience that make a designer suitable to work on a brand identity. If anyone has experience hiring professionals to create a logo, please advise what to consider.

In a logo, I was looking for something that would stay in the memory for a long time and at the same time convey the philosophy of the company. A logo isn't just a picture, it's part of your brand!
