After years of hand engraving small silver and gold pieces, I finally decided to try a pneumatic jewelry engraver. I honestly didn’t expect such a huge difference. The control feels smoother, especially when working on fine scroll patterns and bead setting around tiny stones.

One thing I noticed immediately was reduced hand fatigue. Long engraving sessions used to leave my wrist sore, but the pneumatic system does most of the hard work. It also helped me improve consistency in deep cuts, something I struggled with using only traditional gravers.

For beginners, I’d recommend spending time adjusting air pressure before starting serious projects. Too much force can easily damage delicate surfaces. Practice plates are definitely worth using first.

I’m curious what setups other jewelers here prefer. Do you use pneumatic engravers mainly for lettering, stone setting, or full decorative engraving?
