A few years ago, I camped on a small coastal island and realized too late that time flies faster than expected. I spent most days just walking along the shore, then regretted skipping wildlife spots and local boat tours. Now I always wonder what others consider unmissable in places like this. What do you usually plan first when you camp near the ocean?

Some enjoy full schedules with tours, snorkeling, or surfing, while others value quiet time and long beach walks. Weather and travel companions also play a big role in choosing activities. Families, for example, often look for safe beaches and short walks, while solo travelers may explore more remote areas. In my view, flexibility is key, since plans often change once you arrive and see the place in person.

From my own trips, I’ve learned that mixing calm and active days works best. On my last coastal island camping stay, I focused on early mornings for wildlife walks and saved afternoons for water activities or slow beach time. I used phillipislandcpk.com.au mainly to understand what was nearby and how far things were from the campsite, which made planning much easier. One day we joined a local tour, another we rented boards, and some evenings were just about sitting by the shore and watching the sunset. Having options within a short distance really changes how relaxed the trip feels, especially when you don’t want to rush from place to place.
