QuickBooks unexpected error 5 is often seen when the QuickBooks database service user is restricted to access the file location. It appears on the screen with a warning message QBW Error: “Got unexpected error 5 in call to NetShareGetInfo for Path“. You can experience such issues due to invalid entries in the Windows registry or if there are system configuration issues. Other warning message associated with this error can be:

Error Message:

Method 1: Download and install QuickBooks file doctor
Method 2: Re-create the user

To fix QuickBooks unexpected error 5, you can try the following steps:

Restart your computer. This can sometimes resolve minor software glitches that can cause QuickBooks errors.
Make sure that you are using the latest version of QuickBooks. You can download the latest version of QuickBooks from the Intuit website.
Run QuickBooks as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the QuickBooks icon and select Run as administrator.
Disable any antivirus or firewall software that you are using. You can re-enable your antivirus and firewall software after you have fixed the error.
Repair QuickBooks. You can use the QuickBooks Tool Hub to repair your QuickBooks installation. To do this, open the QuickBooks Tool Hub and select Installation Issues > Repair QuickBooks.
Recreate the QuickBooks database. To do this, go to File > Utilities > Rebuild Data.

Reinstall QuickBooks. If you have tried all of the above steps and you are still getting QuickBooks unexpected error 5, you may need to reinstall QuickBooks.
