A slightly technical but free method could be to run a streaming media server such as RED5 on the internet connected computer. Assuming this computer has a routable IP address you could then browse to the content being steamed from the computer on the TV's web browser (assuming it's an internet connected TV).

As you control the media server you are also controlling the TV content.

Once RED5 is setup, streaming is pretty easy - just drop WMV, AVI, MP4 files into the relevant folder inside RED5 and they're converted and ready for streaming.

You can remotely control the content that is to be displayed on TV using a remote content management software. It allows you to change content in real-time, use the devices as an interactive kiosk as well as a Digital Signage display.

Well, do you have any TV box already or any IPTV/OTT Set-Top Boxes? Check out these guys for a  remote control and sleep well. I have purchased a couple of assessors through that manufacturer and should say it works pretty well for me. Absolutely no regrets at all. Highly recommended.
