Finally, the falska zenith klocka last watch J.J. bought, and the watch he was wearing when we met for coffee, is one that came his way after signing his most recent contract – a Patek Philippe 5170G. This manually wound chronograph was released this year at basel World and uses Patek's in-house chronograph caliber. Sized at 39mm, the 5170 is a truly classical chronograph and one of the finest in the world at that.So is the H0 a watch for everyone? Absolutely not. Will purists and those interested in more modest timepieces likely scoff and turn the other way? For sure. But they shouldn't. Even if you're not going to be strapping on an H0 anytime soon, I believe it's always exciting when genuinely new horological ideas appear and I'm happy to see that even in today's climate there are people and companies willing to experiment and try new things. The shrunken size is a big deal, but let's be honest: It's nothing compared to the biggest news of the day, which is that Rolex made one of these 36mm Explorers in two-tone metal, steel and gold. You simply could not have drawn up a watch more in line with my horological sensibilities. When the news broke yesterday morning, and I saw the first image of the two-tone, I let out an audible gasp. This was at 6:00 AM, and I may or may not have awakened both my wife and my dog.But now, here we are. He has his unique piece – we call it 'the one' – with unique touches only he knows about, and Carl F. Bucherer was able to introduce a production model of our most complicated watch.
The one thing I remained disappointed in was the bracelet; it felt a bit slim for such a case, and the replika jaeger lecoultre hodinky finishing was a bit rough. Then again, the price positioning might justify a sort of trade down in the bracelet department. Moreover, it is not fully integrated, so a switch to a strap is always an option. But, he says, "It is a dangerous matter. This is something we need to be very careful about. Many years ago, IWC was producing gold watches. Then they had problems, and they fabricated everything in steel. They tried to come back to gold, and they could never do it. Once you lower the price with steel, it is very hard to come back."These days I don't look at it the same way I did when I was a young man pressed up against the glass outside the Omega boutique in suburban New Jersey. I no longer have visions of sliding my Walther PPK into a concealed holster and then peeling back my cuff to check the time on my Seamaster before striding into a swanky party full of statesmen and beautiful people in an exotic locale. (Okay, fine, maybe I do just a little).
Grand Seiko watches up to now have been a Seiko sub-brand, with the Seiko logo at 12:00 and Grand Seiko at 6:00. However, moving forward, Grand Seiko will be presented as an independent brand and the dials will simply read "Grand Seiko." To mark the occasion, Seiko is releasing three limited edition watches in steel, gold, and platinum. Read the full story here.PF has used rose gold in the Tonda line before and If you like rose gold, you'll like this execution. The best part of the metal though is how billige montblanc ure well it plays with the dial, the true star of the show. A Grain d'Orge guilloché dial, the color is listed as "Deep Ruby" but I think it is absolutely fair, correct even, to call it "purple."Any Vacheron 4072 in good condition is already a special watch. Back in January, I included a photo of a pink-on-pink example at the Miami Beach Antique Show, and it's still one of the best vintage watches I've seen this year (I was told it sold soon after that for a healthy six figures).
